Author and accomplished blind hiker Bill Irwin to speak at the BDN Maine Outdoors Expo

Bill Irwin, author of Blind Courage, and the only blind person to have ever completed the 2,168 mile Appalachian Trail will be at the Portland Expo for the BDN Maine Outdoors Expo Saturday May 4 at 2 pm.

Bill Irwin, with his seeing eye dog Orient, is the only blind person to have completed the 2,168 mile Appalachian Trail. His trek  began on Springer Mountain, Georgia and ended at Katahdin Stream Campground in Maine. His historic hike was the single most publicized human endeavor that year and is an inspiring example of overcoming the odds.

Bill Author of Blind Courage, the account of his life and incredible journey, which is now in its eleventh printing. Blind Courage was published in 1993 in the United Kingdom and Germany and in 1994 in Taiwan.

Bill Irwin is an exceptional and inspiring motivator, and his message of hope and perseverance has been well received everywhere he speaks.
